Nylon Magazine

MarleyKate called me for the shoot for Nylon that got published for Aug 2010 issue! Yay!! Coincidence was for the shoot, one of the styles we got to dress the model with was a bag done by Rogan for Loomstate, whom my friend Berrin works for. The dress is a bag/dress conversion piece. You can read more about it here.

Tank

This is my dog Tank. He's a chihuahua and he's 5 years old. He's not yappy, prissy or shy, he's just real cool. I love him! It's funny, he's been caught on camera couple of times, seriously he get's around. Here he is on a Spring 2010 DQM look book and on Missbehave magazine with me! He recently was in the shoot for Dis Magazine too. I'll post that picture up if it gets used!

Hell Ya Magazine Shoot

Just found some pictures from the shoot I did about 2 months ago for Hell Yea magazine with Kelly B from Princess of the Posse. We shot at the studio where Peter works at which is the Macy's studio in downtown Brooklyn. That whole building is HUGE! There were tons of hallways, random rooms, and staircases that lead to everywhere and nowhere. As the day turned into evening, it got spookier by the minute. I swear I was gonna run into some old Macy's spirit. The shoot was fun and it was great to see Kelly and Peter. As soon as I get the tears, I will post them up!

Make Up Bags

To become a makeup artist, I needed to get a basic makeup kit together. My makeup that I personally use are in my lesportsac pouches but for my professional kit, I needed to get an official makeup case. I mean, I didn't really have to get an official makeup case but I'm just that type of Gal that needs to get EVERYTHING together from the get-go. Sometimes that tendency bites me in my butt when my new "aspiration" ends up as just an expensive hobby.

Here are some cases I looked at:

Japonesque Professional Aluminum Series Makeup Case with Drawers
This one is interesting. It has different drawer compartments and comes with the roller. The outer shell is pretty sturdy. The doors open up and has brush holders so you don’t really need a brush belt. You don’t need to really unpack your kit bag, you can just pull the drawers out and grab what you need. Runs for around $220 here.

Black Roll Top Makeup Case W/ Straps
This bag is small and compact. Its not HUGE but it has enough compartments to hold the necessary items. From alcohol spritzers to palettes, it fits them all! This is great for someone that just wants to organize their makeup at home too. The only thing that gets to me is that if you pack this thing up, it ends up weighing a ton. Get it here for around $80.

Zuca Bag
At the end, I decided to buy myself a Zuca bag!!! They come in many different colors & patterns and the best part of it all is that you can sit on the top metal part of the bag. Say you were on a set and they don’t have a seat for you…you can opt to just sit on the bag!! Amazing. Standing around the whole day can really get to you so this feature is so kind to your feet. The bag zips open and comes with 6 little bags that you can stuff with your makeup items. You can just shove that back into the bag so the amount of makeup that you can fit in the bag is unbelievable. It comes with wheels so you can pull it anywhere and its very compact. This awesome bag starts around $130 and can go up to $300. I spent about $150. Get ithere!

Vogue Nippon

Came across these images shot by Glen Luchford for Vogue Nippon.
Twins Effect! I love the Chanel one. Those over sized bottles...Love!

My Favorite Eyeshadow Primer!

Since I just posted a Urban Decay discount post, I figured I would write about their Eyeshadow Primer - Primer Potion.
I highly recommend this product! This is by far my favorite primer out there. For those who's not familiar with this product, you apply it on your eye lids before you apply the eye shadows for long lasting, vibrant color results. It holds the shadow on all day with out creasing caused by the natural oil from our skin. This product comes on silkier compared to the other eyeshadow primers I have used which makes the application and blending of the eye shadows easier. If you do get this, let me know what you think about this amazing potion!

80's Inspiration

I have a shoot this weekend with MadeMe Clothing and the makeup inspiration is going to be the 80s style. Defined cheekbones, bushy eyebrows, bright shimmery lipstick. I compiled an inspiration board that I will be referencing. I have to make sure I incorporate the whole 80s style without going overboard with the application. I'll keep you posted with the outcome.

Make Up I'm Loving Top 3 - Mascara Edition

Clinique High Impact Mascara - $14

This is the mascara I wear everyday and can't live without. This mascara not only makes your lashes fuller, it also gives them length. It does not smudge or give you panda eyes at all.

Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Lengthening Mascara - $22

LOVE this mascara. This goes head to head with the Clinique one I posted above. The tube it comes in is squeezable so you can squeeze the mascara out directly to the palette instead of using the wand to take the creme out.

Imju Fiberwig Mascara - $24

I came across this mascara in Japan years ago and back when they didn't sell this in the states. Sephora brought it over the sea and has been carrying it for a while now. This mascara makes your lashes long and full by coating them with micro-fine fibers. Even if you did try to smudge it, it rolls into clumps and falls off the eyelashes without smudging nor giving you panda eyes.

Make Up For Ever Makeup Haul

Every last Saturday of the month, I get 40% off Make Up For Ever so I decided to hit up the store. Even with that discount, I spent WAY too much and I swore to myself this is the last batch of makeup I’m going to buy for a while..let's see. Everything I got except for the eyeliner, lip pencil and the HD foundation, is for my kit I swear.

What did I get you ask?? Let me list it from left to right.

Dany’s Pouch - super stoked on this! If I am on set, I can put my brushes in there instead of having it lye around on the table for more neater set up.

Mist & Fix Mist - this mist sets the makeup on the face after application.

Eye Seal - holds the eyeshadow and pigments on.

All Matt Primer - this is amazing! Feels really smooth on the face.

Lipstick #201 - I needed an orange lipstick.

HD Powder - this is a smaller version but they had a bigger size at $140.

HD Foundation #115, 117, 140, 177 & 185 - #115 is for me but I got 4 different colors for my kit. I can mix and match for all skin tones. I’m ready. You know this is the cream of the crop out there now right?

Star Powder #930 - Shimmery brown pigment. Uber pretty.

Powder Brush 55N - Love this brush. I will be using it to apply the HD foundation.

Crayon Lip Liner #KF01A - Love the pink. I can wear it with gloss.

Aqua Lip 17C - I needed a orange lip liner to match my orange lipstick.

Aqua Eyes 10 - this is for me, I can’t live without waterproof eye liner in black.

Introduction

This is my first post for my new blog and I wanted to introduce myself! I am Rika, born in Tokyo, Japan and I have been living in New York for a while now. English is my second language so please excuse me if my grammar is iffy on my blog.

I have always been a creative girl and of course I chose something related to the Arts as my professions. I have been a graphic designer for the past 9 years but have been juggling many “hobbies” throughout those years. I also have a jewelry line called The Dynasties.

The reason why I am starting this new blog is because I have a new aspiration in my life that I have been working on and that is to become a Makeup Artist!!! I have started taking baby steps to make that a reality so I want to blog about it as well as make this blog all about MAKEUP and things I LOVE!!

So welcome to Rika Loves It! and hope you check in with me here and there to see what’s up!!!
